Vendor Briefing Overview
Burton Group invites companies and organizations to brief our analysts when launching
new products, changing business models, or announcing major corporate news. Vendor
briefings are a research tool for Burton Group analysts and are scheduled at the
analyst’s discretion according to his or her research needs. Vendor briefings are
not an interactive session with the analyst; information should flow from the vendor
to the analyst. Analyst feedback should not be expected in a vendor briefing. If
analyst feedback is needed for the vendor, please view our analyst consulting opportunities
Requesting a Vendor Briefing
To request a vendor briefing, completely fill out the request form. When you choose the topic of the vendor briefing,
an analyst that covers that technology area will receive the request. Upon submission
of the request, an e-mail will be sent to the requestor with a link to a status
page that has the most up-to-date information regarding your briefing request. You
will receive an "accept" or "decline" e-mail within five business days of submission.
Face-to-face briefings are very infrequent and depend on travel arrangements and
analyst acceptance.
Vendor Briefing Selection Process
Burton Group analysts decide which companies and organizations are important to
their personal research agendas. The selection process is the same for both client
and non-client vendors. If your request for a vendor briefing is declined, you may
be contacted at a later date when research needs have changed.
Scheduling an Accepted Briefing
The scheduling process starts once the assigned Burton Group analyst accepts the
requested briefing. The analyst will contact the scheduler from the request form
and begin the scheduling process. Tips to help in the scheduling process:
- Thoroughly and completely fill out the briefing request form. Leaving any part of the form blank or
incomplete could result in a declined request.
- Lead times for scheduling accepted briefings are usually 2–4 weeks. Whenever possible,
submit your requests with as much lead time as possible.
- Lead times significantly increase when multiple analysts are requested. When a briefing
is accepted, only one analyst is guaranteed to attend.
- Be flexible. When you request specific dates and times, it is difficult to meet your
expectation.
Conducting the Briefing
Vendor briefings are scheduled for between 30 and 60 minutes and are conducted by
conference call. Dial-in instructions will be provided by the analyst during scheduling.
From your briefing status page, you will have the ability to upload any presentation
material before the briefing takes place. During the briefing, the flow of information
should be from the vendor and to the analyst. Vendor briefings are not analyst feedback
sessions. As you brief the analyst, you will want to clearly present the main points
for your briefing and then give time for the analyst to ask clarifying questions.
At the end of your briefing, the analyst will archive your presentation files and
his or her notes on the briefing for use by other Burton Group analysts.
