Burton Group says Mobility for the Enterprise Workforce is the Rule, not the Exception

Key recommendations for enterprise IT professionals to be shared at Burton Group Catalyst Europe in Prague, 21-24 June 2010

Salt Lake City, May 11, 2010 – Smartphones have transitioned from personal communication devices to become critical business tools for the majority of enterprise employees, leading to mobile working becoming the rule, not the exception, according to Burton Group. Enterprise IT leaders must be able to adapt, adopt and not block these technologies, but manage the device regardless of ownership.

The implications of mobile working on enterprise IT will be discussed at the rescheduled Burton Group Catalyst Europe event being held at the Hilton Prague, Prague on 21-24 June 2010.

The increasing demands of the mobile workforce and the rapid consumerization of devices have led to more business calls being made on mobile devices than on wired telephones. Smartphone’s are continually moving into the enterprise, and now have potential to displace laptops for e-mail, instant messaging, social networking, and other applications. However, not every smartphone can live up to the expectations of enterprise networks and security managers.

“Smartphones have the capability to replace laptops for some computing tasks at lowered costs,” said Michael Disabato, vice president and service director, Burton Group. “Security and privacy of enterprise information on mobile devices are real issues that IT leaders must evaluate and address in order to mitigate risk for their organization.”

Burton Group Catalyst Conference brings together attendees from Fortune 500 and Global 2,000 companies to discuss significant technology topics and complex issues facing enterprise IT organizations. This year will be unlike any other for IT, with budgets unlikely to return to pre-crisis levels in 2010. To match this shift, Burton Group has focused the Catalyst agenda on what IT organizations need to know in order to make the right IT decisions and execute in a year where producing business value will be critical.

The agenda for the event is posted on the conference website, along with new speaker line-ups http://catalyst.burtongroup.com/EU10.
